Debbie Muñoz Named Executive Director of TMRS

The Texas Municipal Retirement System has named Debbie Muñoz as its new executive director, according to a statement posted on the organization’s homepage at www.tmrs.com.

Muñoz, a native Texan and graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, joined TMRS in 1998. She has served in a variety of leadership roles over her 27-year tenure, including her most recent position as deputy executive director.

TMRS stated that Muñoz “has worked tirelessly to take TMRS to new heights.” The organization noted that she has been “an advocate for innovation, spearheading technology and communication projects that revolutionized the way TMRS informs and connects with its members and cities.”

The announcement described her service and vision as “nothing short of transformative, leaving a lasting impact on the organization, the members it serves and the State of Texas.”

“Debbie's new role will magnify the impact that she will continue to have on TMRS' 260,000 members, their families and their communities,” the statement said.

TMRS provides retirement, disability, and survivor benefits to municipal employees in more than 900 Texas cities. As of Dec. 31, 2024, the system managed $43.2 billion in Trust Fund investments, according to its 2024 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
