Heading to The Polls? Here's What You Need to Know

It's election day in the United States. Here's what you need to know as you head to the polls.

National Election Overview

Although the president isn't on the ballot, 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 seats in the Senate are up for election this year, battling for control of the U.S. Legislature.

Thirty-nine state and territorial gubernatorial elections and numerous other state and local elections also are up for grabs.

Texas Election Overview

The governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, comptroller, land commissioner, members of the Railroad Commission, the agriculture commissioner, and various state courts are up for election in Texas.

The upcoming 88th Legislature will have some new faces. Because of redrawn districts last session, this year's ballot includes 31 Texas Senate seats, 150 Texas House seats, 38 U.S. House seats, and 15 State Board of Education seats.

There will be at least 25 new House Representatives and six new Senators in the Texas Legislature due to open seat races, with more possible based on election results.

Some Texas communities hold elections today for city, county, and school board offices and local bonds or propositions.

The Polls

The polls close at 7 p.m. for tonight's November 8, 2022, midterm election. If you are in line at 7 p.m. and haven't yet voted, don't worry, you still get to cast your vote.
