What to Expect from the 2024 Texas Primary Elections

As the 2024 election cycle heats up, Texas voters will soon have the opportunity to cast their ballots in the March 5 primary elections. The primary elections are how Texas' political parties decide who ends up on the general election ballot in November. The results will have significant implications for the state's future of public policy, politics, and government.

The Texas Tribune, a nonprofit news organization that covers Texas politics and policy, is hosting a live and virtual event to help you prepare for this important event. Titled "Pregaming the 2024 Texas Primary Elections," the event will take place at 9 a.m. CT on Wednesday, Feb. 21. You can register for free and watch online here. The event will be held live at the Tribune's Studio 919 at Congress Ave., Sixth Floor, in Austin.

The event will feature a panel of experts who will discuss the races up and down the ballot, from the presidential campaign to the legislative contests. They will also analyze the key issues and trends shaping Texas's political landscape, such as border security, health care, education, and more. The panelists are:

  • Zach Despart, politics reporter for The Texas Tribune
  • Karen Brooks Harper, health and human services reporter for The Texas Tribune
  • Jasper Schrerer, state politics reporter for The Houston Chronicle
  • Rebekah Allen, politics editor for The Texas Tribune (moderator)

This event is a great opportunity to learn more about the candidates and the issues that matter to you and your retirement system. You can also ask questions and interact with the panelists during the livestream. We encourage you to tune in and share your thoughts after the event with us on social media using the hashtag #TEXPERS.
