TEXPERS is holding Basic training on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at the Austin Marriott Downtown, 304 E. Cesar Chavez St. 

Basic Trustee Training is for new trustees and provides seven hours of training over seven content areas from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The registration fee is $225 for TEXPERS member retirement systems and employee group members and is $325 for non-member retirement systems.   

Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. and a continental breakfast is served until 8 a.m. 

TEXPERS' Basic Trustee Training meets the Texas Pension Review Board's Minimum Education Training Program requirements. Within the first year of their service, new trustees and administrators are required to receive a minimum of seven hours of training. A public pension fund trustee and administrator can get the seven hours of training they need in one day by attending TEXPERS' Basic Trustee Training on April 1.

Obtaining training helps a public pension fund trustee understand their fiduciary duty to their fund members. Training can help trustees understand the financial and legal risks associated with managing a public pension fund. It can also enable trustees to better comprehend the pension fund’s investment structure and how to optimize it. Training can provide trustees with the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them to be more successful in their roles as public pension fund trustees.
